Vacation rental home tips and tricks:
When to visit Port Royal & When to reserve a rental home:
- In the Beaufort, SC area, The earlier your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Booking your rental home six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- Book your Beaufort, SC vacation home in the Spring or Fall to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Beaufort, SC visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides have offers and deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Finding the perfect rental home:
- First and foremost, have your group choose trip dates and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Affordable Cottage close to Parris Island gate has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property management company before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- Does your group require specific amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
Additional considerations:
- Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of difficulties.
- Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
- Document any issues with the property during check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are assessed.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a fantastic stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
