Tips and Tricks to get the optimal rental experience:
Get the best value:
- In the Beaufort, SC area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best properties are reserved early. Booking your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
- Book your rental property in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
- Property managers sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Beaufort, SC visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines contain deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select your vacation dates and spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Large Home on Marsh, Party Deck, Game Rm, Two Golf Carts, 8 Bikes, Elevator, ADA has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible online. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before reserving the property. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You will need to determine what configuration is right for your group.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or costs could be applied to your contract.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking
Tips for your stay:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Document any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great resource to find the best local attractions.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a terrific vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
