Tricks and tips for getting the perfect vacation home experience:
Sticking to a spending plan:
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- To get the most suitable rental home within budget, we suggest booking in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers often offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Often, rental management companies supply Beaufort, SC area visitors guide magazines which include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Beaufort, SC area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Make a plan and choose the rightrental:
- Start by having your group commit to trip dates and a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Pet friendly
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the property manager before reserving your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish what configuration is right for your vacation group.
- Some properties allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- If there's an individual Beaufort, SC destination you long to visit, search for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
More considerations:
- Take a copy of the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents many issues.
- Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let thieves spoil your holiday.
- At Check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a terrific time? Most rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
