Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines contain discounts for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would back home.
- To make sure damages are not attributed to your family's visit, record any problem areas upon check in. Speak to the rental manager right away to document your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on good reviews to drive more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
