Vacation rental tips and tricks:

Getting the most from your rental home budget:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season along the coast of SC. To find the best value, try changing your vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Beaufort, SC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
  • Property management companies usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Often, rental management companies supply Beaufort, SC area travel guides that include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Beaufort, SC visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before reserving the vacation property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is best for your vacation family.
  • If there's a particular Beaufort, SC beach you are crazy about, search for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly property. Get specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

Additional considerations:

  • Get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
  • During check-in, document any damages to the property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to make sure you have not leave anything behind. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on good feedback to compel future reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
