How to find the best vacation rental experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Summertime is high season in Fripp Island. To get the most suitable rental for your budget, we suggest reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Beaufort, SC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Property managers sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
  • Property management companies often offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Beaufort, SC visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines contain discounts for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • To start, have your family agree to the best dates and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. 721 Sea Dragon Lane - New to VRBO! Resort Access Included! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before reserving the vacation home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what is suitable for your vacation group.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
  • Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

More considerations:

  • Take a copy of the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Note any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if a dispute is filed.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental property while you're gone! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a great vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
