Strategies to get the optimal vacation home experience:

Get the most from your budget:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. To find the largest rental home within budget, we recommend reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular Beaufort, SC attractions. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
  • In the Beaufort, SC area, The sooner your group can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are reserved very early. Reserving your rental home up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family.
  • Booking websites typically offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Look for your local Beaufort, SC area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitors guides have coupons for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Choose a group leader, choose your trip dates, and choose a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Estate lot! Waterfront! Views of the downtown! A vacationer’s dream home!! has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking websites. If not, call the host before reserving the property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You will need to determine what configuration is best for your trip.
  • Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or costs applied to your invoice.

Additional considerations:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your smartphone.
  • Note any issues with the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peace and quiet. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are out! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
  • Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave a review! Hosts rely on good ratings to propel new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
