Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:
Find your perfect vacation home:
- Summer months are the most expensive season along the coast of SC. To find the largest vacation home for your budget, we strongly suggest booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities.
- In the Beaufort, SC area, The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Booking your vacation home up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
- Property management companies typically offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Many rental management companies supply Beaufort, SC area visitors guides that include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. Choosing and booking your prefectrental home:
- First and foremost, have your family select dates and a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Ocean Views! - 449 Tarpon Blvd - New to VRBO! Resort Access Included! has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property manager before booking the rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
- Some properties allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
Advice for your stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
- Upon check-in, note any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your life at home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on good ratings to inspire new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
