How to get the best rental home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Reserve your vacation in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
- In the Beaufort, SC area, The sooner you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Booking your rental home six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
- Property management companies typically offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Beaufort, SC area magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, travel guides contain deals for nearby shops and restaurants.
Narrow your rental Search:
- First and foremost, have your family decide on date ranges and a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Renovated, Steps from Beach, Amenity Cards, Golf Cart has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking pages. If not, contact the property management company before booking the property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If there's a certain Beaufort, SC attraction you love, look for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
- Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the host about your furry family members before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Take a copy of the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
- During arrival, record any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents many issues.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would back home.
- Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a fantastic stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
