Getting the best vacation home experience:

Sticking to a rental budget:

  • Booking a rental in the Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
  • In the Beaufort, SC area, The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Booking your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
  • Booking websites typically offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Look for your local Beaufort, SC area magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides have deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.

How to pick the perfect vacation rental in the Beaufort, SC area:

  • Start by having your group select a vacation week and a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Custom-built Luxury Home on Fripp Island! Incredible Sunsets! Private Deck and Screened Porch! has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available online. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before booking the property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what configuration is suitable for your vacation.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a property that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Document any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if damages are assessed.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on great reviews to propel future bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
